“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”
~The Doctor, Season 5, Episode 10
Sighh…It seems that the longer life goes on, the more we are disappointed by its everyday happenings. Like I’ve said, people are fickle…they always end up disappointing us…But more than that, it’s just the moments of life that never turn out the way we need them to. It seems that within entire passages of sorrow, there are little pockets of happiness. Atleast, that’s my take on life. Now, by “little pockets of happiness”, I’m not referring to a certain period of time or even, attempting to measure the significance of said pockets of happiness. By that, I just mean, that every so often, when it seems like we’re wallowing in the very depths possible of our lonely existence, God gives us a happy something to pull us through. And these gifts that He presents us with, whether they be in the form of people, events, objects, usually end up contributing to the best moments of our lives. Only, all too soon, they’re taking away from us. The few fleeting moments of utter joy that we experienced are replaced by our usual humdrum and restless lives. And really, this just makes us long more for the way things used to be, when we used to actually be capable of loving life and enjoying it. Honestly, it’s always made me wonder…is it better to live life in those brief moments of exhilaration and joy, to truly live it and experience all of its little quirks, or better just to live our normal lives, never having to know the pain that comes afterwards of being removed from our happiness?
But maybe, it’s those little moments of true laughter and gaiety that actually define our lives and the people we grow up to be. After all, we’re all just pawns in this wonderous game of life…we all experience the same factors of life; the only thing that changes is how we respond to them. Sometimes, it may seem like life has nothing good to offer us. Sometimes, it may seem like there’s so little left to life after all of our happiness has been taken away from us. But, the true thing to remember is that those little moments of personal happiness are our own. No matter what happens in the future, no one and nothing has the power to ever take away the joy that we received from those moments. So, maybe, they can’t make the bad things that follow less despicable, but they can atleast comfort us with the knowledge that life goes on, and with it comes new moments of happiness that have a way of brightening our entire world up. The good things in life don’t ever have to be seen as less important than all the negativity surrounding us if we can just figure out ways to make those moments count.
